These boots are a good quality boot at an affordable price (when you compare prices of a good boot). My husband shattered his ankle a little over a year ago & his arch fell as a result. He has had nothing but issues trying to find a comfortable shoe since. He needed a pair of boots for work & I had purchased Bates in the past for myself & loved them so he gave them a try. He said his ankle feels 100% better. There was very little swelling after wearing them all day, usually he has so much swelling he can't get his shoe off. He works as a correctional officer at a prison so he is walking or on his feet 95% of the day (10-12hrs a shift). He said even with all the walking there was little pain, just mild discomfort. He was even able to run with no problem. They worked so well that he had me order a second pair for his PT job. They also polish up well & hold a good shine.To expound more on the quality, I had my Bates for 6 years (and I wore them ALOT) before I had to replace them. And that was only because I had finally wore the zipper on the side out. The soles were still in good condition. I had to replace them with a cheaper boot because I couldn't find any Bates in my size at the time. The difference was extremely noticeable & painful. So keep that in mind, the saying "you get what you pay for" definitely applies when it comes to these boots.Also, I had the side zipper model & my husband has the no zipper model. Obviously its a personal preference decision, both work great.
